Pepper opera lovers treated to a magnificent performance
of La Bohème
Pepper Opera lovers were treated to a magnificent performance of Puccini’s La Bohème on Sunday 17th February at the Centenary Theatre, Berkhamsted Collegiate School.
This was the seventh year that the Garden Opera Company under the musical directorship of Peter Bridges had delighted the audience with an outstanding production.
It was a captivating performance not only because of the excellence of the singing, but also the very natural way in which the performers enacted the story of the young Parisian friends having to face the death of Mimi, superbly sung by Anne Bourne.
Chris Steele as Rodolfo, Adrian Powter as Marcello and Sally-Ann Sheperdson as Musetta also gave fine performances.
As ever the mobile set, which this year depicted Paris in the 1940s, was cleverly designed to adapt quickly to the scene changes. A superb Chamber ensemble of six musicians provided music.
Thanks must go to Gillian Munro and her team of volunteers who served champagne cocktails at the bar, provided front of house, technical support, meals and accommodation for the opera company.
Pepper is also grateful and privileged to be acquainted with The Garden Opera Company who over the past 7 years, has contributed enormously to the Pepper Foundation. 27th August 2009
