2009 Pepper Excelled at the Opera
The celebrated Garden Opera Company treated Pepper opera lovers to yet another successful offering of their latest production - Don Pasquale by Donizetti, which had the audience spellbound throughout.
Not all opera’s can be equated to that of a Whitehall Farce, but the performance given by Deryck Hamon as Don Pasquale had the audience in hysterics. One can only say his facial contortions, similar to those performed by Rowan Atkinson, encouraged laughter long before he even opened his mouth to sing, which is probably why Don Pasquale is considered by many to be an ideal first time introduction to opera.
The opera, sung in English, sparkled throughout with wit and the most enchanting music, whilst being compassionate and well suited to the Garden Opera’s company of talented young professionals.
Numbers were slightly down on previous year performances no doubt as a result of the current financial downturn, but that did not deter those who simply went out with the intention of enjoying good opera as well as having a good night out.
Many people also took this opportunity to dress up in black tie creating a real sense of occasion, which was rounded off by the usual selection of appropriately themed champagne cocktails. All in all, the audience was treated to an extremely professional performance given by this very talented company of singers and musicians.
Next years offering by the Garden Opera Company will be the Barber of Seville, another amusing opera, which can be enjoyed by all opera enthusiasts at whatever level they are at. No firm date has been set yet, but it will be sometime in February at a date to be announced later in the year. 14th July 2009 Recent News |
