Pepper provides Alanya with a breath of fresh air!
10 year old Alanya Tanner from Amersham was recently provided with a new portable oxygen concentrator by The Pepper Foundation, to help give her the oxygen she needs in place of the bulky equipment she used to require. The machine which cost £2100 was presented to Alanya and her family by Co-Chairman of the Foundation, Tony Hill and Jonathan Tweed , at Heritage House School in Chesham.
Alanya has been visited by the Pepper Nursing Team since March 2002, she has severe scoliosis causing impaired lung function, frequent chest infections and more recently has become oxygen dependent. She has had oxygen at home for the past 4 years, which she has via a large oxygen concentrator machine piped around indoors and small cylinders attached to her chair for transporting or trips out. Initially she only required oxygen when she was suffering from chest infections, but over the past year she has required it almost constantly. Until now her family has needed access to several portable but heavy cylinders to take on short outings together, therefore the new portable oxygen concentrator will make a big difference to the quality of Alanya's life.
Alanya's mum, Yvonne, explained how important this new machine has been to the family: “I can't thank Pepper enough for their generosity with supplying Alanya with this tiny oxygen concentrator. In the past we'd have to allow an extra seat in the car for ‘Connie' the original concentrator now it will make all travelling so much easier. We can go to all types of outings with all the children without worrying about lugging the 4-6 cylinders of oxygen!' Alanya's class will be going to Butlins for a week's holiday in June and this time Alanya will be able to join in the fun with her friends using her new backpack device! 14th July 2009
