In remembrance of Trevor John Nicholas
1 October 1940 – 24 January 2009
Founder member of ‘the company of four plus one' a charity which has raised money for the benefit of children with disabilities in Hemel Hempstead and West Hertfordshire since 1981, raising over the years in excess of £300,000.
Trevor was a police officer with the Hertfordshire Constabulary until ill health forced him to retire early. The charity was conceived together with three colleagues and was initially known as ‘The company of four' until a local businessman was invited to join the group and he became the ‘plus one.'
The charity's principle fundraising activity was an annual boxing dinner (25) and more latterly and annual golf day (13). Trevor's commitment and energy and engagement with the local business community were critical to the charity's success. Trevor played a key role in ensuring that the charity's money was properly applied to benefit the most needy enhancing their quality of life. Until the demise of the Dacorum Pavilion the Annual Boxing Dinner was considered by many local businessmen to be one of the highlights of the year.
Aside from his charity work, Trevor was the loving and devoted husband of Alice, father to Caron, Jackie and Mark and grandfather to Heather, Roisin, Ciarran, Alex and Finn. He was so cruelly taken from their presence after battling cancer but remains ever present in their hearts.
May he rest in peace knowing that he made a difference to the community in which he lived and served for many years. The Pepper Foundation would like to take this opportunity to thank Trevor's family, friends and colleagues for their generous support to the Foundation in memory of the man who made such a difference to their lives, and that of many others.
