The 2005 Flora London Marathon

The London Marathon – the biggest and best 26.2 miles in the world!  At least it was on Sunday 17th April 2005 when 21 runners took part on behalf of the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home.  Anne, Julie, Jo, Lawrence, David, Nick, Julie, Stewart, Nick, Chris, Stef, Gary, Ian, Melissa, Andrew, John, Lynn, Mark, Rob, Caroline and Toby: we salute each and every one of you for helping to raise awareness of and funds to support our work.

The weather was beautiful despite dire forecasts, and unless runners were wearing costumes (Cornish pasties, pantomime horse, rhinos and fairies were all spotted on the course), the temperature was perfect.  The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home enjoyed being part of the London Marathon 2005's official charity, Help the Hospices, and being part of the sea of yellow ‘Run for Hospice Care' vests.  Thanks to Tony Yates for co-ordinating IRHH's team, to all who attended our two cheering squads at miles 18 and 25, and of course, the runners and their sponsors.

Although some runners were moving too fast, we did manage a few snaps.  Click here for runners' finishing times where known.  And if you would like to read one runner's account of the race, click here.  Thank you to Julie for letting us know just what it feels like to run 26.2 miles!
