Andy's walk from Wycombe Wanderers to Cheltenham adds £3600 to our charity partnership

Andy Worboys

One of the enthusiastic members of the WWFC Committee supporting IRHH as their Charity of the Year is Andy Worboys. Andy, a resident of Chesham, is a Founder Member of the Football Club, a member of the Supporters Trust, a member of the Founders Trust and President of the Official Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Association.

Starting on Wednesday 1st March, Andy completed a 70 mile walk in time to attend WWFC's match vs. Cheltenham on Saturday, 4th March 2006. Along the way Andy became something of a media star featuring on BBC 3 Counties Radio, talkSPORT radio and BBC Radio Gloucestershire. The walk culminated in an interview on the pitch at Cheltenham and a lap around the ground, during which supporters from both sides gave Andy a well deserved standing ovation. Tired and sore but elated by his achievement and the reception that he received, Andy celebrated with a meal out in Cheltenham on Saturday night and a night's sleep in a local hotel.

The walk raised funds for both IRHH (via The Supporters Trust) and the fund that has been established in memory of young WWFC player Mark Philo, tragically killed in a car accident earlier this year.

Andy commented, "I hope that such a venture will encourage other people to get involved and participate in direct fund-raising both for the Supporters' Trust and other local charities."

Andy is also helping boost profits in the 9 IRHH shops. Working in the textile industry, Andy is able to acquire fabric off cuts. The remnants of top quality fabrics are being distributed around the IRHH shops for sale. With bargain prices from only 50p the fabric is proving a popular buy for people who make cushions and soft furnishings or enjoy patchwork.
