The Staples 2 Naples rally is a trans-European banger rally designed to be completed over the course of a long weekend. This year it took place from 22 – 25 September 2006. Each car taking part must cost no more than £100. The rally actually starts in Calais and finishes just north of Naples. On 22nd September, four guys, Jonny Can't Dance, Lieutenant Loose, Pilgrim Pudin' Head, Captain Tankard and their rubber chicken Colin, took part in the four day challenge – calling themselves "The Gorgonzola Go-Go Guys". After taking part in the 2005 rally the guys agreed “we all had such a good laugh and we vowed to take part in the rally every year until we die!” Their vehicle of choice was a Volvo 740 which they purchased from Ebay for a grand total of £31 with tax! A Volvo after all was their vehicle last year, which gave them no problems at all. This year they spent hours turning their vehicle into a mobile bush! Rob Green, aka ‘Pilgrim Pudin' Head' reports, “The rally was fantastic fun and there was a lot of effort put in by the other teams. We narrowly missed out on the best car but we did win best bodge as we repaired a leaking pipe with with parma ham and chewy sweets!” |
| At the end of the event there is an awards ceremony held in Naples before a well earned rest and the return for home. Most vehicles are disposed of in an Italian scrap yard and alternative transport is arranged home. The Staples 2 Naples rally is a charity fund raising event and "The Gorgonzola Go-Go Guys" are raising as much money as possible for their three chosen charities, The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, Cancer Research UK and the Myotubular Trust. Every penny raised will be donated to their chosen charities. The guys are still gathering sponsorship money for their event.
