Messiest Fundraising Event - Aylesbury Store Manager Wins Award

We were delighted to nominate Adam Harris, Manager of the Walton Court Somerfields store in Aylesbury for a special Shining Stars award.

The “Messiest Fundraising Event” award was presented to Adam by Sir Steve Redgrave, at a special luncheon in the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham .  This marked the end of the year in which Somerfields stores across the UK raised £2.8million for their charity of the year, The Association of Children's Hospices.

The Aylesbury store organised a number of events including a trolley dash, tombola and a sponging in which Adam was placed in the stocks outside the store.  Members of the staff, customers and some other local traders paid £1 for three soaking wet sponges or £5 for a full bucket to throw at Adam.  Adam told us “It was a very cold day, the water was very very cold and most people opted to throw a whole bucket.  But we all had great fun and the staff enjoyed it. We would definitely do it again but on a warmer day!”.

Adam has also made a parachute jump on behalf of IRHH in 2005 and is hopeful that one or two members of the store's staff will be taking part in the special IRHH parachute jump day on 3rd June 2007.  This parachute jump day is open to everyone and anyone wishing to sky dive can contact the IRHH fundraising team on 01442 890222
