Music, Char Ladies, Hoovers & Rifles!

John Gibbons - conductor

If you were not at the Wycombe Swan on Sunday 22nd July, you missed a magical evening, hosted by the High Wycombe & Amersham Fund Raising Group.

There were all the favourite pieces from Elgar, Verdi, Puccini, Parry and so many other treasures.

The whole evening  was a huge success, orchestrated by John Gibbons who conducted stunning performances from The Ealing Symphony Orchestra, the Wycombe Philharmonic Choir, The  Lord Williams's Festival Chorus and, not least , The Taplow Children's Choir.  In addition the audience was wowed by soloists of international standing, Anna Leese - soprano, Adrian Thompson - tenor, Andrew Staples – tenor and Michael Dewis – baritone, all of whom performed with pure operatic genius.

One refreshing item was Sir William Walton's original score of Battle of Britain, a most sensuous musical portrayal of that epic battle.  Michael Dewis's topical political satire rewrite of the song “I've got a little list” from The Mikado provided hilarity in the audience and Bill Giles, with three members of The Lord Williams's Festival Chorus all dressed as char ladies with their noisy Hoovers, so irritated John Gibbons and the Ealing Symphony Orchestra during A Grand, Grand Overture that they were “shot” (in a musical sense of course) to universal delight. You should have been there! You really should.
