Mayor and Mayoress head for France on Beaujolais Champagne Challenge |
Brian and Pat Ayling, the Mayor and Mayoress of Dacorum, are the latest in a long line of Borough Mayors to take part in the annual Kodak Beaujolais Champagne Challenge event organised by IRHH. Brian and Pat set off for France on Sunday to reach Beaujolais in time for the annual release of the Beaujolais Nouveau at midnight on 14th November. Travelling in the latest Freelander sponsored by Landrover, they will take part in the overnight challenge with representatives from the charity and guests to record the shortest possible mileage between Beaujolais and Champagne , raising additional funds through sponsorship.
The Mayor commented, “Pat and I are looking forward to supporting the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, my chosen charity, by taking part in the Beaujolais Champagne Challenge. This is an important event in the IRHH fundraising calendar and I expect to have my driving and navigational skills put to the test whilst participating in an event which has a long history of supporting charities in the Borough.”
IRHH has taken orders for around £20,000 worth of wine and champagne at a series of Charity Wine Tastings over the last few weeks. Whilst in France , wines will be purchased and prepared for despatch back to the UK to fulfil the orders taken.
