The IRHH pays tribute to Derek and Janet Townsend


Tom Johnson, Jenny Barratt, Janet and Derek Townsend, Sue Jarvie, Valerie Gunn and IRHH Director of Nursing, Sue Varvel.

Derek and Janet Townsend, who stood down as Mayor and Mayoress of The Borough of Dacorum in May, attended a reception at the Tring offices of the Iain Rennie Hospice At Home on Tuesday 16th July 2002.

IRHH Appeals Director, Robert Breakwell, paid tribute to their hard work on behalf of the Iain Rennie Nurses which had raised £43,000. In particular he thanked Derek for his imagination, energy and sense of fun which had been an inspiration to so many people during his year in office.


Chairman of Trustees, Valerie Gunn, presented Derek and Janet with a montage of photographs taken throughout their mayoral year, and Team Leader for the Dacorum Nursing Team, Sue Jarvie, presented flowers to Janet.

Vice Chairman, Tom Johnson, made a presentation to Mayor's Secretary, Jenny Barratt, who, with Terry Parkins, the Mayor's Attendant, had provided enormous help to the IRHH Fundraising team during Derek and Janet's year in office.
