MAYOR OF DACORUM - APPEAL LATEST

The Mayor of the Borough of Dacorum, Cllr Derek Townsend, has had a busy week promoting the Iain Rennie Hospice At Home which is his nominated charity for his year in office. Derek hopes to raise £25,000 to pay for a Support Nurse - his appeal total has already reached £4,000.

It was an early start for Derek on Saturday morning, the 14th July, when he became a market trader for the morning, selling freshly made bread (still hot from the ovens!) at Tring Farmers Market. The market organisers kindly waived their fee and local master bakers, Atkins, made a donation and gave bread at cost for the Mayor to sell.

On Sunday 15th July, the Mayor officially opened Hemel Hempstead Carnival and spent the afternoon visiting the many stalls and floats, calling in at the stall run by a team from the Iain Rennie Warners End shop and our Mobile Information Unit.

A trip to Zippos Circus on Blackbird Moor in Boxmoor, Hemel Hempstead was the highlight of Monday 16th July. Thanks to the generosity of the Zippos Circus, the Mayor was able to entertain some children in the care of the Iain Rennie Pepper paediatric nurses as well as welcoming children from local schools to join him and the Mayoress for a thrilling performance.

The Mayor and Mayoress hosted a lunch on Tuesday 17th July in the Mayor's Parlour for the organisers of a successful Art Raffle and Coffee Morning which was held in Berkhamsted on Friday 22nd June and raised over £900.
