The British 10k London Road Race took place on Sunday 2nd July 2006. During it's brief five year history, the annual British 10K London Run has quickly grown to become the third most significant mass participation road race in the UK. It is staged on the world's greatest route, which no other road race over any distance can match. This year we had a team of 14 runners. People chose to run for IRHH for lots of different reasons. Amanda Smith, her brother Simon and some of their friends made up part of the IRHH team. Amanda said, All went well at the run, it was hot but I guess at least we got through the start before 10am and it wasn't at midday !! The heat was in the late 20s already by the time we left!!! I got through it by pouring the water from refreshment stands over my head!!! I was really pleased with my time. I've never run 10K before and I did it in 52mins, delighted with that as had to run round a lot of people as they didn't put us in time pace maker sections first so I had to really zig zag to move on!! Simon did it in 47mins, Tom in 45 mins, and Liz who without the heat usually runs really fast, did it in just over an hour. The rest had to walk as they hadn't trained enough!! One of our runners Liz Male did some alternative fundraising to tot up her sponsorship total and raised £100 for IRHH via a cake sale at work well done Liz! Runner Melanie Nicholson, It was very very hot! My time was ok, considering the heat, 56 mins. It was really nice meeting some other runners running for IRHH on the day. |
Lesley Gorton, Retail Manager at IRHH and IRHH nurse Margaret Hewitt and her friend Annelie were also in the team. Charlotte Rawlings, a nurse who works closely with the nurses at IRHH said, I made it but there were lots of people around dropping like flies in the heat!
