Wendover Memorial Woodland

It's not too late to remember your loved ones by making a donation towards the Wendover Memorial Woodland !

Wendover Memorial Woodland – HS2

We are aware that the proposed HS2 rail link is likely to have an adverse effect on the recently planted Wendover Memorial Woodland.   Whilst we are unsure about the long term effect of HS2 on the Woodland, we are concerned that there will be major disruption at this very special place of remembrance for a fairly long period of time.

Whilst we will keep supporters informed, you can find out more information from the HS2 information Centre in Wendover or by email. Click here for HS2 consultation documents and questions.   Paper copies and DVDs can be obtained from HS2 Ltd on 020 7944 4908.

Although we have already received over £20,000 in dedications towards the Woodland, we can still accept more.

Dedications can be made in memory of friends and relatives. Their names, and yours, will be included in a Commemorative Book and you will receive a certificate for each dedication acknowledging your support. The Commemorative book will be on display at the Tourist Information Centre in Wendover later this year.

Your gift will be used to meet the growing need for the Iain Rennie nursing service which, like the Woodland, will grow and develop for many years to come.

Tree-planting

In February 2010 we held two very successful planting days, with several hundred people visiting the Woodland site to plant over 450 native British saplings.  Click here to view pictures and read more.

Where is the Wendover Memorial Woodland?

The site overlooks the village of Wendover, between Bacombe Lane and Ellesborough Road, with delightful views stretching far across the Chilterns area. We are sure it will be a wonderful place to visit, to reflect and to remember. Click here for a location map.

A ceremony of dedication

IRHH hosted a special picnic and dedication ceremony led by charity Patron Geoffrey Palmer on Sunday 12th September from 2pm till 4pm at our Wendover Memorial Woodland.

Geoffrey opened the event with a series of readings including Johnny Ray Ryder Junior's poem the Oak Tree and several poems by Thomas Hardy.

On 16th October, the charity is planning another planting day, this time of crocus bulbs kindly donated by Wendover Rotary, which will produce a beautiful purple carpet of colour in the early spring.
