Open Gardens 2009Garden visitors this year have raised in excess of £7,600, with a variety of gardens opening to reveal their hidden secrets in aid of IRHH. From small to large, formal to informal, visitors have not been disappointed, with many heading home with plenty of inspiration for their own piece of paradise.
The first garden to open was that of Glen Erica in Fulmer, organised by the Beaconsfield Fundraising Group. This one garden alone raised a fabulous £1,250, generated from 180 visitors and was a wonderful start to the open garden season. A full Report and pictures can be seen by clicking here.
The Beaconsfield Group also organised a successful event in Gerrards Cross, with four beautiful gardens opening to raise an additional £2,200. Click here for a Report and pictures for these gardens.
June proved to be a very busy month for gardeners and visitors alike. Four neighbours in Tring worked hard to ensure their former Rothschild allotment gardens were in tip-top shape for an open weekend. Despite slightly inclement weather, plenty of people came along to view each of these unique gardens, helping to raise over £300. Click here for further details.
Several gardens on the private Abbotsbrook Estate in Bourne End opened to residents and friends. The event was held in memory of Ann Irvine, a former resident, and raised a wonderful £1,255. A Report for this garden can be seen by clicking here.
Over 250 people descended on Bucksbridge House in Wendover on a gloriously sunny afternoon, helping to raise a fantastic £1,300. With pick your own strawberries and mange tout included as raffle prizes and copious cups of tea sold, this proved to be a very successful event. Click here for a report for this event.
The villages of Cholesbury and Wilstone, both near Tring, had a selection of gardens open, with part of the proceeds coming to IRHH. With £500 and £432 raised respectively, these proved to be yet further successful open garden afternoons.
Additional gardens which opened for us over the past couple of months have brought the total to over £7,600. The trend for spending a relaxing stroll admiring a beautiful garden has not diminished.
We are always very grateful to garden owners for choosing to open their gardens to raise funds for us. Whether you are part of a neighbourhood group, village or an individual and would consider opening your garden to raise funds for us, we would love to hear from you. As those who have opened this year will testify, despite all the hard work and time that goes into lovingly tending the gardens, it is well worth it. Plans for open gardens in 2010 are currently being discussed - further details will be issued later this year.
