Wrapped with Love

This new Iain Rennie initiative aims to inspire people from all over the Chilterns and beyond to get knitting to create beautiful and cosy wraps for our patients. Click here for Recent News on our popular knitting scheme.

Whether you are a near professional with a passion for knitting, looking to improve your knitting, or keen to learn to knit – why not get involved?

A wrap can be knitted, crocheted, machine knitted, woven or patchwork lined: it’s your choice and your creation. 'Click here for our IRHH Wrapped With Love Gallery.

As well as providing beautiful works of art with a practical function, Wrapped with Love carries a strong emotional message. We hope the scheme will bring a sense of community and companionship to people living alone as they come together to create these wraps for our patients. There might even be the chance to raise funds! Read on to find out how…

If you decide to take part

As the main contact person your role could be to:

  • Create a design for a wrap (click here for guidelines)
  • Find friends, relatives and friends of friends to knit 10” squares, or organise a knitting bee
  • Nominate someone to sew the squares together
  • Organise someone, if not yourself, to co-ordinate the making and finish of the wrap. One wrap measures 40 x 70 inches or 28 x 10 inch squares (4 across and 7 down)
  • Think about making this a fundraising opportunity as well. Why not knit over a cuppa and cake or tea and biscuits and charge £2 to £5 a head? Alternatively, you could go all out and organise a lunch and charge a bit more. With the help of friends, the rewards will be there. Remember, any proceeds from your event will help our nurses carry on caring and £150 pays for a nurse for the day.
  • Send the wrap to Jenny Moloney at our Tring office. or drop it into your nearest IRHH shop with Jenny’s name and address details attached

Once the completed wrap is sent to us, we will photograph it (with its special Wrapped With Love label sewn in) and feature it on our website. If there is a special story associated with the making of your wrap, we would love to hear about it.

There is no deadline for completing the wraps but we plan to have a competition and exhibition of some of the wraps in May 2011.
