AGS student Digging for Gold Award14 year old George Lucas from Aston Clinton is helping IRHH by turning unwanted bric-a-brac into serious cash. George is spending an hour a week at the Akeman Street office listing anything from books to china on our eBay shop as part of his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.
"It's really satisfying to know that I've been able to help other people as part of my Duke of Edinburgh Award", said George, who attends Aylesbury Grammar School . "I've had to list some crazy things such as a china elephant, some salt and pepper pots shaped as ducks and a plaque of a woman's face which turned out to be quite valuable and sold for £60! I was amazed. All the things I list have been donated, usually through one of the Iain Rennie shops."
"Before I came to Iain Rennie I didn't know how to sell things on eBay, but they've taught me how to describe things accurately and find out a bit more about them so that they raise the maximum amount. One of our neighbours was cared for by the Iain Rennie nurses last year and I know that the money raised is going to a really good cause."
George will spend 3 months volunteering at Iain Rennie for his Duke of Edinburgh Award "although I might stay on longer as I'm really enjoying it." He then hopes to go on to do his silver and gold awards.
