Ed Bennett completed the Ballbuster Challenge in Surrey on the 8th November in memory of his mum who was cared for by Iain Rennie nurses. The Duathlon (running and cycling challenge) was a really tough challenge said to equal the London Marathon in difficulty. The Ballbuster race took Ed over Box Hill, near Dorking in Surrey, a total of 5 times with each loop being 8 miles long; 2 on foot and 3 in the saddle. Ed came a fantastic 22nd out of 300 participants which is an outstanding achievement.
A keen cyclist , Ed found the cycling part of the challenge easier than the running but enjoyed the challenge overall:
'I did feel that I was at an advantage on the bike as that is my main sport, the final running lap was particularly hard-going for me (basically because I went out at a stupid pace from the start and I'm not a particularly experienced runner!). Anyway, towards the end of the event the thought that I wasn't just racing for myself, but also to justify the sponsorship, kept me going. It also reminded me of all the running my mum used to do (in all weathers!) and that was hugely motivating as well.'
Ed has raised a fantastic sum of £1745.38 in sponsorship so far and is now putting his feet up! Well done Ed thank you for all of your hard work.
If you would like to sponsor Ed there is still time to sponsor him via his justgiving web page at www.justgiving.com/edbennett .
