Mat Newman completed his fourth fundraising challenge for IRHH on Saturday 20th September by cycling over 80 miles from Seer Green to Oxford and back! He has raised over £1000 in sponsorship which has made all of his aches and pains following the bike ride well worth the effort:
'I set out with a friend to support me at 7am, and 7 hours later made it back into Seer Green. It is the toughest thing I have ever done physically and I was in a fair amount of pain at the end. I don't know whether that says more about my fitness than the ride, but I did train for it, so I would like to think it was a challenge.
I think most people would be able to relate to the fact of 7hrs of non stop exercise is quite a strain. I am sure I will be having nightmares about Aston Hill for weeks to come as it was 2 miles of slow torture up hill. This has been the fourth event since my dad passed away and each one has been a massive challenge. I am not sure how I will top this one next year, but will start thinking when the aching dies down a bit.
Over 4 years I have raised nearly £5k which I am very proud is going to such a great cause. IRHH didn't get to help my dad directly, but they did help a good friend of mine's father. So I got to find out about the amazing work their nurses do to help cancer sufferers and their families. IRHH have also been very supportive on my events and they are a local charity who really make you feel like you are making a difference. '
If you would like to sponsor Mat there is still time to visit his JustGiving fundraising page.
Well done Mat we hope you are taking some well-deserved rest!
