Volunteers Summer Party 2009 a big hit!

Our first Volunteers Summer Party was held on 3rd June. In past years IRHH has celebrated National Volunteers Week and said thank you to our many volunteers by organising an outing.  This year we were thrilled to be offered the use of Micklefield Hall for a garden party and so decided to try something different.

The weather stayed dry for us and with the Jolly Jazzers providing entertainment and Lee's Bakery in High Wycombe donating scones, Rozina Ahmad & Jane Carruthers were able to organise a great afternoon without diverting too many precious funds.  They were enthusiastically helped by many other members of staff turning up to help make tea and donating homemade cakes.  IRHH Patron Bill Giles gave a witty and entertaining talk about his career at the BBC, our very own Robert Breakwell (together with his friend Keith Roome) added to the fun with some music and singing, and everyone had the opportunity to explore the beautiful grounds.  The table quiz was won by a table of ladies from the Tring shop, together with a couple of volunteer receptionists from the Tring office.

The response and thanks from our volunteers has been brilliant!  They have commented that they recognised some of the waitresses and struggled not to get up and help (as they are always wanting to do) but in the end thoroughly enjoyed being served a never-ending supply of sandwiches, scones & cakes!  Everyone also enjoyed the chance to chat info rmally with other volunteers, both that work in the same roles and in completely different areas.  As Fundraising volunteer, Derek Coils , noted as he left, the afternoon proved " very refined "!
