On 14th October 2009, 112 delegates from all over the country attended IRHH's nursing conference at the Coach House Conference Centre, Green Park , Aston Clinton.
As well as delivering hospice at home care across the Chilterns area, IRHH hosts an annual conference for health care professionals involved in palliative care, providing an opportunity to access leading figures in this field and a forum for discussion and debate on current issues and practice.
This year's conference was chaired in the morning by Professor Karol Sikora, IRHH Patron and Medical Director for Cancer Partners UK and in the afternoon by Sue Varvel , IRHH Director of Nursing. The informative and thought-provoking day was entitled "Preparing for the End - Planning for the future?".
Six speakers addressed topics relating to this theme, including the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), the role of chemotherapy, helping adolescents move from children's to adult services, learning from carers, and advance care planning.
Education and training is a key part of IRHH's development strategy for their nurses. More information is available from IRHH Professional Development Lead, Helen Joels, on 01442 890222 or hjoels@irhh.org
