Planting to start in our new memorial woodland Around 450 native British saplings will be planted this month to create our new Memorial Woodland on a one-acre site in an area of outstanding natural beauty, overlooking the village of Wendover.
Many families across Herts and Bucks, whose loved ones have been cared for by Iain Rennie nurses, will be joining the first phase of planting on Saturday 6 th February 13th February, or supporting the project by becoming patrons of the woodland.
Among them will be Wendover resident and IRHH Partnership Fundraiser Linda Petrons, and her children Ed, 16, and 13-year-old Annie. Linda explained: "My family received wonderful support from Iain Rennie nurses after my husband Joe was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2005. Joe did not want to be in a hospital or hospice and they made it possible for him to be at home with his family, in familiar surroundings.
"And after Joe died, my children and I were visited by the charity's bereavement support team. They helped us to come to terms with our loss and to start rebuilding our lives. The Wendover Memorial Woodland will be in a beautiful area, with views stretching across the Chilterns. We think it will be a wonderful place for people to visit, to reflect and to remember."
Everyone is welcome to come along to help plant the trees. The woodland will be sited just beyond the train station in Wendover, between Ellesborough Road and Bacombe Lane . Plantings on 6 th and 13 th February will be between 10am and 4pm. Please bring a spade and gloves!
People may also like to become patrons of the woodland by making a donation to IRHH. Individual trees will not be marked but dedications can be made in memory of friends and relatives, and their names will be included in a commemorative book. Linda said: "Each gift will be used to meet the growing need for the Iain Rennie nursing service, which like the woodland will grow and develop for many years to come."
A special celebration of the new Wendover Memorial Woodland is being planned for the summer of 2010 when the young trees will be in leaf. Everyone will be invited to come along for a picnic followed by a dedication ceremony.
