High Wycombe Rugby Club score for charity

The High Wycombe Rugby Union Football Club celebrated a high scoring year on Saturday when they presented a £1000 cheque to Iain Rennie Grove House Hospice Care. Club Chairman, Mr Kelvin Hardy and Secretary, Don Dickerson handed over the cheque to charity mascot Rennie Bear and Community Fundraising Manager at IRGH, Joanne Hunt , at a special lunch for club members.

Mr Hardy commented:
“We are really pleased that our fundraising efforts this year have been so successful. Most of us have been touched by cancer or other life-limiting illness at some point in our lives and it is really reassuring to know that we have an organization like IRGH on our doorstep offering first class care to patients and their families at times when they need it most. Our members from both youth and adult sections have really thrown themselves into the fundraising and it just goes to show what can be achieved when everyone clubs together to support a deserving cause.”

The Club raised the money principally from a Boxing Day Tombola last December and from two raffles held in 2011 organised by Mrs Terry Brown and Mrs Mary Auton.

Joanne told us:
“We were delighted to accept the cheque which will make a valuable contribution to the work we do to support local patients and their families diagnosed with life-limiting illness and we would like to thank everyone involved for all their hard work. To raise this sum of money is a real achievement by everyone at the Club and without this sort of dedicated fundraising, it would not be possible to del iver our service free of charge to patients and their families.”
