Brand new Mini donated byThe radio station Heart has donated a pristine new Mini to IRGH. Breakfast presenter Daniel Fox officially handed over the keys of the Mini to our Director of Nursing Sue Varvel and the head of the Pepper Children's nursing team Sonya O'Leary on Thursday 6 th October.
The donation follows the nationwide Have a Heart Appeal earlier this year which raised over £330,000 for Children's Hospices UK. Sue Varvel explains: “We employ more than 60 nurses who travel around 300,000 miles each year to visit patients in their homes, any time of the day or night. Our six children's nurses (known as ‘Pepper nurses' because they are funded by the Pepper Foundation) provide long-term care for local children and their families coping with life-limiting illness. This team will use our new Mini during the day to visit our paediatric patients. During the evening and throughout the night, the Mini will be in use by our overnight team, who respond to any phone-calls from patients or carers with telephone support or visits as required. It's great news for IRGH that the Mini will benefit not just the children for whom the charity cares, but patients of all ages.”
Heart's Daniel Fox said: “The work that IRGH and the Pepper Children's Nurses carry out across Herts and Bucks is truly inspiring and we are delighted to support them. We'd like to thank all our Heart listeners for their amazing generosity with our Have a Heart Appeal. By enabling us to provide the Mini, their donations will make a real difference to improve the lives of seriously ill patients and their families in our local area.”
