Joey supports launch of Hospice 10k Challenge
British Olympic hopeful athlete Joey Duck is supporting the brand new Hospice 10k Challenge. Joey, who is currently in training and hopes to represent Britain at London 2012, knows the importance of receiving support as she is sponsored by Beaconsfield-based Wealth Managers Austyn James Consulting Ltd. Their support has enabled Joey to surround herself with the right team and resources at this really important stage of her training and she is now pleased to be offering support to others taking part in the Challenge. We are also delighted to announce that Austyn James have become principal sponsors of the Hospice 10k Challenge and their Founding Director, Austyn Smith has signed up to take part. Joey and Austyn are encouraging as many local people as possible to take part in the event which takes place on Sunday 4 March in Chalfont St Giles.
Joey told us:
“As an athlete I know how important setting goals and achieving them is to my sense of self-worth and I'd like to encourage as many local people as possible to sign and set themselves a personal goal. It really will give you a massive boost, especially at what can be a very miserable time of year. No-one knows better than me how difficult it is to motivate yourself sometimes to get out of bed or off the sofa and work towards a fitness goal, but the massive sense of achievement when you finish an event like this and the ability to share that with everyone around you who has also taken part gives you such a buzz it really does make it all worthwhile. With the Hospice 10k Challenge, there's the added incentive of the huge difference that the money you raise makes to local families facing the even bigger challenges posed by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.”
The Hospice 10k Challenge will set off from Chalfont Wasps Football Club at 10 am on Sunday 4 March and will follow an undulating and mixed terrain route which will give runners of all standards something to aim for and enjoy. Using local footpaths and bridleways, the route takes you down country lanes and through the beautiful Hodgemoor Woods before winding its way back to the Football Club. Entry costs £17 which includes a T-shirt, a medal and chip timing. For further information and to register, please go to www.hospice10k.org
Austyn told us why he is pleased to be involved:
“We're supporting Joey because we recognise her potential to be a great athlete over the coming years and we believe everyone should have the chance to reach their goals. In return for our support, Joey is helping us to build a new brand called Fitness4Finance™ which will encourage young people to set and track their own goals, be they financial or lifestyle related. For this reason we are also delighted to be supporting the Hospice 10k Challenge as this gives local people a perfect goal to aim towards. Whether you are a keen runner in which case you can aim to achieve a personal best time for the run, or a novice for whom finishing the race will be a real achievement, the setting of a goal will be a great motivator. Personally, I'm aiming to finish in one piece and I will be trying to squeeze in as many training runs as possible between now and 4 March.”
Joey, whose many successes include winning a gold medal representing Britain in the 4 x 100m relay at the European Under 23 Championships, will be sharing tips for staying motivated with Hospice 10k participants in the run up to the event on the IRGH Hospice 10k Challenge Facebook page and in special e-newsletters. She will also act as official starter on the day and will be cheering people along the way and handing out medals at the end of the run. Joey will not find out until 6-8 weeks before the Olympics start if she will be successful in her bid to represent Britain at London 2012 but at just 22 years old, she will definitely be a name to watch for the future.
