Pepper Children's
Pepper Children's Nurse Manager: Sonya O'Leary
The Pepper Children's Nurses are part of the Iain Rennie Hospice at Home (IRHH). Our innovative paediatric team offers specialist palliative care and support to children with a life threatening or life-limiting illness. The IRHH Pepper Children's Nurses work with families to provide care and support for each child in their own home.
The nurses provide specialist palliative care, free of charge, for sick children throughout the Chilterns area of Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. This includes short breaks at home where all the child's needs can be met to allow the rest of the family some time and space for themselves, knowing that their child is being safely cared for. The nursing team are also able to offer appropriate support for the child and family when end of life care becomes necessary, enabling them to be in their own home. The service provides a 24 hour, 7 days a week telephone link which families can access for support and visits when required.
The IRHH Pepper Children's Nurses are specially trained paediatric nurses who care for children and young people up to 19 years of age, with conditions that require palliative care, as defined by the Association for Children with Terminal and Life-Limiting Conditions (ACT) and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH). The team work in partnership with all other professionals involved with the child and family to provide a seamless service.
The Iain Rennie Hospice at Home receives funding for its children's service from The Pepper Foundation (reg. charity no 1056823) which has been closely associated with the service for over 15 years and completely funded the start-up and early years of the service. The service receives limited Government funding. More info rmation on The Pepper Foundation can be found at www.pepper.org.uk
